Xhorse Dolphin XP005 Error Code6 Solution
If your Xhorse Dolphin XP005 or XP005L key cutting machine throws Error Code 6, 56, or 3 while decoding or cutting keys, it means the machine is experiencing an electrical conductivity issue.
Most of the time, this error is caused by a short circuit—often due to metal iron filings building up inside the cutter mechanism. Here is a quick, step-by-step guide to diagnosing and fixing the problem.
Step 1: Run a Conductivity Test
Before tearing the machine apart, confirm the short circuit through the app:
Navigate to Device Info ➡️ Electrical Conductivity Measurement ➡️ Start Detect.
Click Start to run the test.
The Diagnosis: If the screen instantly displays "OK" before the cutter even makes contact according to the on-screen prompts, your machine has a short circuit.
Step 2: Disassemble the Cutter Head
If the test confirms a short circuit, you will need to clean or inspect the main axis:
Take off both the front and back covers of the Dolphin machine.
Locate the adjustment screws on the spindle assembly. Turn Screws 1, 3, and 5 counterclockwise to loosen and remove them completely.
Tighten Screws 2 and 4 clockwise to push open the black metal structural component.
Carefully pull the main axis assembly (connected to the cutter) straight up and out.
Step 3: Inspect, Clean, and Repair
With the main axis removed, check for the two most common culprits:
Check the Insulation Paper: Inspect the white insulation paper on the spindle. If it is torn or damaged, it will cause a short and must be replaced.
Clean Out Metal Filings: If the paper looks perfect, the short circuit is likely caused by metal shavings trapped at the bottom. Thoroughly clean out all iron filings from inside the housing and around the axis.
Step 4: Reassemble (Watch the Screw Order!)
Once everything is clean and intact, put the machine back together. The order of tightening the screws is critical:
Reinsert the main axis assembly.
First, loosen Screws 2 and 4 by turning them clockwise.
Then, reinstall and firmly tighten Screws 1, 3, and 5.
Put the covers back on, run the conductivity test once more, and you are ready to get back to cutting keys!
